🇺🇸 Interview with The Ghost Singers: a theatrical sound for a world that needs to dance

|

From heartfelt loss to cheeky club anthems, The Ghost Singers is anything but ordinary. With a first single titled “Boom Boom Booty”, this solo project bridges fun, pain, and musical freedom. Behind the quirky lyrics and big beats lies a one-person engine powered by resilience and raw creativity.

How did the The Ghost Singers adventure begin? What was the starting point?

TGS: The Ghost Singers was the love child and dream of a man who just loves music! I’ve been writing for years, never thinking anyone would actually listen, but I finally found the inspiration, the tools, and the love of those closest to me to make this dream a reality.

What inspired you to write Boom Boom Booty?

TGS: “Boom Boom Booty” was just a fun, jesting, melodramatic hymn that I came up with many moons ago, almost as a joke. I thought I needed to have a booty song under my belt. I always wanted a club banger that someone like Pitbull could remix and turn into a global hit played in every club in the world.

What’s your songwriting process like? Do you follow a specific method or workflow?

TGS: My process is probably a little uncharacteristic compared to other songwriters. I usually start with a title or a thought sequence and then build a story or a feeling around it. A lot of songwriters start with a melody or musical riff and write lyrics afterward. I begin with the poetry and then build the composition to fit that.

Why did you name your first album All Mixed Up? What does the title mean to you?

TGS: I named my first album “All Mixed Up” because I want to blur the lines between genres and create something that feels like a playlist — for people who love all types of music. I wanted something that had a little bit for everyone. Music isn’t about genres, it’s about people and their desire to feel and to listen.

You’re not alone in this collective, who does what? And what’s your role?

TGS: Honestly, I’m alone in this collective, mostly. I used to ask artists and musicians I loved to work with me, but everyone who was good or worth a damn was always too busy with their own projects. When my biggest inspiration, my sister Joanna, passed away in 2023, I knew I had to find a way to make my words heard. Music was the only medium that made sense.

One item you absolutely can’t live without on a daily basis?

TGS: I’m not really a “stuff” person. I often tell people that if I had to leave in a hurry, I could probably leave most things behind. I’d say my daughters, but some days I need a break (laughs). My mind maybe, but sometimes it drives me mad. So probably something boring like my toothbrush! LOL.

The last 3 songs you listened to today, no cheating!

TGS: “Living On A Prayer” – Bon Jovi, “I Am the Fire” – Halestorm, “Backup Plan” – Bailey Zimmerman / Luke Combs.

If this project were to come to life on stage one day, what would it look like?

TGS: It would look like a play. No band just standing there playing instruments (don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love bands), but this would be a full theatrical stage show, eye candy, a movie on stage.

If you had one piece of advice for aspiring artists trying to make a living from their music, what would it be?

TGS:
#1: Probably don’t do what I’m doing.
#2: Check out the Sona Foundation — a wonderful nonprofit that helps up-and-coming songwriters succeed and monetize their art.
#3: Follow your heart, lead with your soul, and if you don’t know what to do — find someone who does, and follow them to the moon.

What are your goals for 2025?

TGS: My goal for 2025 is to be heard, maybe a little noticed, to work with as many talented, amazing people as the gods will allow, and to give back, inspire, and help as many people as possible with my words, message, and actions.

Any final words to wrap things up?

TGS: In the words of Bailey Zimmerman: “If you got a fire, don’t lose it. If you got a do-or-die dream, do it. If you got something to prove, go on and prove it!”
