In 2026, too many artists are still making the mistake of neglecting their YouTube descriptions. Yet, in our eyes, that’s where the magic happens—and here’s why…
You’ve just uploaded your latest rap video to your YouTube channel and, in the excitement, you rushed the description part. You’re being a bad student! Time for a quick refresher course…
Why is it important?
If a user stumbles upon your video (which is already a challenge in itself) and likes what you do, their first instinct will be to look for you on their favorite platform. Either on Spotify to add you to their playlist (which means tons of streams because they’ll listen to you every day on the subway while heading to a minimum-wage job), or by straight-up buying your track on iTunes (cue the « bling-bling » sound—what am I gonna do with all this cash?). The problem is that in 90% of cases, there’s no direct link under the video because you forgot to put one there (shame on you). Since they’re too lazy to search for you manually in their app, they move on. You just lost a new fan and some money in the process…
Put the most important info first 🚨
It’s obvious, right?! So why isn’t it done in 90% of the videos you send us?? Alright, let’s stay calm and break it down.
A smart multi-link FIRST 🔗
This is the first thing that should appear under your video: that famous multi-link that, when clicked, offers the option to listen to or download the track on any platform. Here’s an example: http://hyperurl.co/kvn-wws If you don’t know how to do it, don’t panic. There are free services to create these links. For instance, SmartURL is a free service that works perfectly: https://manage.smarturl.it/
Next, your social media—but pay attention to how you do it! 😱
It’s crucial that people can access your Instagram or Facebook profile in just one click. So yes, list your socials, but be careful! Just writing @artistname isn’t enough because it’s not clickable, making it almost useless. Please, use a proper clickable link!
Finally, the less vital info, credits, etc. 😏
This is optional. You can thank your team, credit the beatmaker, etc. But please put this at the very end, because some people won’t give a damn if Dwayne Johnson directed the video. What your fans want is to be able to listen to you, follow you, or buy your music without a struggle.
Example of a well-made description 😇
Here is a YouTube description that is simple, effective, and no-nonsense. Let’s hear it for KVN—a good student who followed our advice to the letter.
